Even though I’m not an authority on TikTok, I can confidently say that these buns deserve all the attention they’re getting. In fact, they’re the best cinnamon buns I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried quite a few!

What’s the secret to their divine taste? The buns are baked in a bath of double cream, giving them a moist and richer texture.

And the best part? You don’t need to be a baking pro to enjoy these TikTok cinnamon buns. Just use a package of pre-made buns, and you’ll have them ready in no time!

How to Make the Best TikTok Cinnamon Rolls

TikTok cinnamon buns exploded on my FYP a few weeks ago, and it took me just one video to try the recipe myself.

And they were so good that I didn’t even have time to take a single photo! In fact, they disappeared so quickly that the oven hadn’t even cooled down.

I’ve seen some recipe variations, and if you want to make cinnamon buns from scratch, go ahead.

But I think this hack is perfect for canned cinnamon buns as it jazzes them up with very little effort.

Heck, you can even take store-bought rolls and warm them up in the oven. The cream will soak into the dough, making them a million times more addictive.

Believe me, once you’ve tried this food trend, you’ll never go back to ordinary cinnamon buns.

TikTok Cinnamon Rolls Ingredients - Cinnamon Rolls, Heavy Cream, Butter, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, and Cheese Frosting

Ingredients

  • Pre-packaged cinnamon buns – The beauty of this viral food trend is that you don’t need to make cinnamon buns from scratch! Use any brand (Pillsbury, Grands, Rhodes, or Trader Joe’s) and choose the size you prefer. Don’t forget to adjust the cooking time if you go for giant rolls.
  • Heavy cream – This is the secret ingredient to give canned cinnamon buns a homemade taste! Use heavy cream for the best results, but if you can find 40%, even better!
  • Melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon – When mixed, this trio creates a rich, buttery, and caramel elixir that beautifully coats the cinnamon buns.
  • Cream cheese frosting – It’s optional, but let’s be honest, what cinnamon bun is complete without frosting on top? Either homemade or store-bought frosting will do the trick.

How to Store TikTok Cinnamon Buns

Cinnamon buns taste best when freshly baked. That’s why I never make more than I need or freeze them raw for later.

That said, you can store leftovers in an airtight container and leave them at room temperature for 1 to 2 days or refrigerate them for 3 to 5 days.

They won’t taste as fresh, but they’ll still be quite decent.

Reheat the cooled cinnamon buns in the microwave in 15-second intervals until they’re warm for the best results.

Can You Freeze TikTok Cinnamon Buns?

Raw cinnamon buns freeze very well. Just prepare the dough, add the filling, roll, cut, cover, and freeze.

When you’re ready to eat them, take out as many as you need from the freezer and let them thaw in the refrigerator overnight.

Then, let them come to room temperature and double in size before baking.

This is my preferred method and the one I used for TikTok cinnamon buns. I don’t freeze them after baking, and here’s why:

TikTok cinnamon buns with heavy cream may not freeze well because dairy products often separate after freezing and thawing. Although heavy cream has a higher fat content and is less likely to split, it’s still a possibility. That said, if you individually wrap them and thaw them slowly, it should work.

The best way to freeze TikTok cinnamon buns is after baking when they’re cold and without frosting on top.

Double-wrap the rolls in plastic wrap and aluminum foil and freeze them for up to 3 months.

Let them thaw in the refrigerator overnight, then reheat them in the microwave.

TikTok Cinnamon Buns Recipe Tips

  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to ensure they stay nice and moist. The last thing you want is the cream to bubble and burn instead of soaking in.
  • The butter and brown sugar mixture will be super sticky, so cleaning up will be a bit tricky. Let the pan soak in hot water for 30 minutes to help dissolve the mixture. Or just use a disposable pan and don’t worry about cleaning up!
  • Don’t glaze the cinnamon buns right after baking. The heat will melt the frosting! Instead, let them cool slightly (for 3 to 5 minutes) before spreading the frosting.

TikTok Cinnamon Buns Variations

What’s great about cinnamon buns is that a few small additions can make a whole new treat!

Try these suggestions and make as many variations as you like.

Vanilla Cinnamon Buns

Vanilla is a magical elixir in the world of baking.

A little touch will significantly enhance the flavor of any dessert, turning it from just okay to incredibly awesome.

Mix it with heavy cream before pouring it over the rolls. And make sure to use real extract or paste!

Nutty Cinnamon Buns

These TikTok cinnamon buns are incredibly moist and sweet. And since you’ll be baking them in a bath of heavy cream, the edges won’t get too crispy.

So, if you want to add some texture, you can’t go wrong with chopped nuts!

Choose from walnuts, pecans, almonds – you name it. They’ll add a nice crunch, offering a perfect contrast in texture with the soft buns.

Add chopped nuts to the cinnamon filling when making them from scratch or mix them into the butter mixture and pour it over the cinnamon buns.

Add Homemade Cream Cheese Frosting

While the store-bought frosting is pretty good, nothing beats homemade cream cheese frosting on warm cinnamon buns.

Check out my recipe below and thank me later!

Add Chocolate

Because everything is better with chocolate!

Like nuts, you can easily add mini chocolate chips to the filling when making cinnamon buns from scratch.

But for this simplified recipe, sprinkle mini chocolate chips on the rolls right out of the oven.

The chocolate will melt and ooze into the crevices within seconds.

Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Buns

Cinnamon and pumpkin spice – this combo just makes sense.

Adding more fall spices to this breakfast dessert makes it even cozier and more comforting.

I like to add some pumpkin spice to the frosting, but you can also mix it into the heavy cream.

Maple and Bacon Rolls

If you like sweet-savory cinnamon buns, you can’t go wrong with maple and bacon.

Simply add a teaspoon of maple syrup to the frosting and sprinkle with bacon crumbs.

Homemade Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 ounces of softened cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of softened salted butter
  • 3/4 cup of sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (or maple syrup)

Directions:

  • Beat the cream cheese and butter at medium speed until smooth and fluffy.
  • Turn the mixer to low speed, then slowly pour or sift the powdered sugar into the bowl.
  • Add the vanilla, then mix until smooth.
  • Spread the frosting on the warm cinnamon buns.
