Why ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ director David Lowery wants to make movies that scare your children

He hopes to continue the tradition of films that scare children just enough, but not too much, and cites childhood favorites such as Time Bandits and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom as inspirations.Jude Law, who stars as Captain Hook, praises Lowery and Toby Halbrooks’ script for providing the necessary emotional weight for Hook’s revised backstory.

Law indicates that he was inspired by Cruella de Vil from Disney’s 101 Dalmatians as a child and hopes to lead his children down the path of curiosity, questioning, conversation, and imagination.Lowery hasn’t seen Rob Marshall’s upcoming live-action Little Mermaid yet, but he reveals that The Little Mermaid was his favorite Disney animated movie growing up.

He started a Little Mermaid fan club when he was 9 years old, and he is excited for Halle Bailey’s star turn as Ariel. Lowery hopes to recreate the sense of anarchy in action sequences from childhood favorites such as Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in Peter Pan & Wendy.
