In the heart of Northern Spain, a starving tourist horse named Olaf collapsed during a ride, left to die by those who had exploited him for years. His once strong body had been reduced to a mere shadow of itself, the result of neglect and exhaustion that had finally taken its toll. Olaf had been pulling a horse carriage for tourists, day in and day out, but his body could no longer bear the burden. He began falling down, too weak to continue, his spirit broken by the cruelty he had endured.
When the rescuers from Horses in Distress Spain (Paard In Nood Spanje) arrived on the scene, they were overwhelmed with sadness and disbelief. They couldn’t comprehend how anyone could treat a horse so badly, pushing him to the brink of death. Olaf weighed only half of what a healthy horse should, his body covered in wounds and his feet pierced by overgrown nails. The rescuers knew they had to act quickly to save his life.
