In an unusual display of equestrian prowess, police officers in Albuquerque, New Mexico, recently apprehended a shoplifting suspect using an unconventional method: horseback pursuit. The incident, captured on police bodycam footage, has garnered attention for its unique approach to law enforcement in an urban setting.
The alleged theft occurred at a local Walgreens, where the suspect reportedly stole merchandise valued at $230. As the individual attempted to flee the scene on foot, little did he know that his getaway would be thwarted by the swift hooves of justice.
The bodycam video, released by the Albuquerque Police Department, shows a dark-brown horse galloping through the pharmacy’s parking lot, hot on the heels of the suspect clad in black clothing. The horse, guided by a skilled police officer, quickly closes the gap between pursuer and pursued, demonstrating the agility and speed of the mounted unit.
As the horse and officer catch up to the suspect, the man can be heard yelling, “It wasn’t me,” while leading the equine duo into the street, briefly disrupting traffic. The suspect’s attempts to evade capture, however, prove futile as he finds himself outmatched by the determined officer and his four-legged partner.
