A feline story of rare beauty unfolded when a cat and her four precious kittens, each graced with a stunning and uncommon brown coat, found their way to a loving foster home. Here’s the heartwarming tale of Mars, the cat mom, and her unique litter of kittens.

In recent days, Laura Malone, who serves as a director at Mini Cat Town in San Jose, California, received a distressing call about a family of five in dire need of rescue. It was a cat mom and her quartet of kittens, who had found themselves at the city shelter.
The origins of this family remained shrouded in mystery, but Laura couldn’t help but notice certain intriguing details. “Given her weight and her friendliness, I can assume she was cared for regularly by a human, but her paw pads are dry like a cat who has spent quite a bit of time outdoors,” Laura Malone told Love Meow.

Without hesitation, Mini Cat Town embraced the responsibility of sheltering this feline family. The standout feature of this tale was the breathtaking brown fur that adorned all four kittens.

“We have four girls. Two appear to be solid in pattern and two have white socks and white markings on the face and chest,” Laura added. She also noted the pinkish brown color of their noses and toe beans, hinting at the possibility that they would maintain this unique hue, unlike their black-coated mom.

Brown cats of the chocolate or cinnamon variety are a rarity, emerging due to a genetic mutation of the black color gene. Laura highlighted, “They are pretty rare, especially in shelter or rescue cats.”
Mars, the cat mom, is a stunning feline sporting a beautiful, long-haired black coat. Her initial uncertainty about the new surroundings quickly transformed as she realized her kittens were in safe hands.

During their initial interaction, Mars was vocal and appeared defensive, growling at every sound and movement. It became evident that her vocalization was a means to express her fear and protectiveness over her kittens while also seeking human interaction.

Momma Mars eventually warmed up to her foster family, allowing them to assist with her demanding babies, affectionately named Hershey, Reese’s (or Reese), Twix, and Baby Ruth. She even began to make biscuits (kneading) while prancing around.
