It was a common practice among older people to bury unwanted animals in a hole, and this appeared to be the fate of most of the newborn pups. Except, Bobi, who managed to escape being caught and was still being cared for by his mother.
Eight-year-old Leonel and his siblings chose to keep the puppy a secret for several weeks, aware that their parents would spare the dog if he grew older. Leonel recounted, “We knew that when the dog opened its eyes, my parents would no longer bury it.”
Little did he know that this decision would lead to a lifelong bond with Bobi that would span over three decades.
Earlier this year, Leonel reported that Bobi was still in relatively good health, despite his unprecedented age. Bobi’s eyesight had deteriorated, and he rested more, but he remained otherwise healthy.
While the exact secret behind Bobi’s remarkable longevity remains unknown, Leonel attributed it to the love and care he received. Bobi had the privilege of enjoying “human food” and had the freedom to roam his house, which was set in a “calm, peaceful” environment, far from the bustling city.
