Reflecting on her ordeal, Jade recalled feeling persistently unwell and dreadful. She described herself as run-down, lethargic, and plagued by an incessant feeling of queasiness, accompanied by an insufferably dry mouth. As she stepped outside for a smoke, an overwhelming sense of danger washed over her, propelling her to seek shelter indoors. Unbeknownst to her at the time, Jade’s life was hanging by a thread.
Struggling to make it back to the apartment, Jade collapsed onto the couch, emitting a gurgling sound. In those fleeting moments, she experienced an indescribable agony. Her head felt as if it were inflating, while her body seemed to shrink in response. This surreal and disorienting experience left her yearning for eternal slumber, a state of peaceful rest.
Suddenly, darkness engulfed her, marking the pivotal moment when Jade was on the brink of passing away. Prompt medical intervention transported her to St Vincent’s Hospital, where she was revived through the use of a defibrillator. As she drifted in and out of consciousness upon arrival, the medical team conducted a battery of tests, including brain imaging, blood work, and electrocardiograms to assess her heart’s rhythm.
Over the next four days, Jade received injections to prevent blood clots while the medical professionals delivered exceptional care. To her astonishment, she was informed that upon her arrival at the hospital, she had been declared “dead” for a full three minutes due to the severity of her heatstroke.
