What is the double yolk?
Eggs laid by hens are cells produced by the ovaries of birds. It seems that eggs with double yolks are produced by hens that are still young. When laying hens are very young, they occasionally develop two eggs simultaneously. Commercially, these special eggs are rejected when examined under light because they are considered irregular.
Under normal circumstances, an egg consists of a single yolk within a shell. It can happen that when you crack an egg open, instead of finding one yolk, you get two. The significance of the double yolk in a single shell is that the hen, instead of producing a single cell, produces two.
Various beliefs surround the double yolk, with some suggesting it is an indication of luck and regeneration. According to another negative interpretation, it signifies that someone close is about to pass away. Lastly, finding a double yolk is considered an omen of future twin births.
The phenomenon of eggs with two yolks
A hen typically produces one yolk every twenty-five hours, but in the case of a double yolk, it means that two yolks have entered the oviduct instead of one. Inside the oviduct, where the yolk travels down, the egg white and shell necessary for egg formation are created. If two yolks are released simultaneously, it results in an egg with two yolks.
The different yolks in the ovaries of hens generally move one at a time when forming an egg. It rarely occurs that two yolks come together to form a single egg.
