However, Simpson’s life took a dramatic turn in 1994 when he was accused of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, who were found stabbed to death outside her Los Angeles home. As a suspect in the case, Simpson was ordered to surrender to police but instead fled, leading to a widely televised police pursuit in a white Ford Bronco SUV. The subsequent trial, which lasted 11 months, was dubbed “the trial of the century” by the American media and sparked a national conversation about race, gender, domestic abuse, and police misconduct. Despite the overwhelming evidence presented by the prosecution, the jury ultimately found Simpson not guilty of the crimes, and he was acquitted.
In 2008, Simpson found himself back in the spotlight when he was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping in Las Vegas. Along with a group of armed men, Simpson had attempted to retrieve sports memorabilia that he claimed belonged to him. As a result of his actions, he was sentenced to 33 years in prison. However, after serving the minimum portion of his sentence, Simpson was granted parole in 2017. During his parole hearing, he expressed remorse, stating, “I’m sorry things turned out the way they did. I had no intent to commit a crime.”
On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer.
He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
