I personally enjoy a good seafood dish, whether it’s white fish, dense and flaky salmon, or small and juicy shrimp. Just thinking about Brazilian shrimp soup or Vietnamese fish tacos gets my taste buds tingling. If you share the same love for seafood but want something that’s tasty and simple, then this recipe is perfect for you!

This recipe is very simple, with a lot of lemon and garlic, and a touch of red pepper flakes and smoked paprika for a beautiful color.

I find baking the fish to be easier, but grilling it on a cedar plank works great too. I marinate the fish for about an hour, but 30 minutes to 2 hours is sufficient. Then, I bake it for about 20 minutes until it’s nicely flaky. To serve, garnish it with parsley, lemon wedges, and freshly chopped tomatoes.

It’s easy! Whoever said that healthy meals cannot be prepared quickly has clearly never tried my recipes. But don’t just take my word for it – try it yourself.

Ingredients you will need

  • Olive Oil – We want an oil with a neutral and pleasant flavor that forms the base of our marinade.
  • Lemon Juice – Freshly squeezed lemon juice! Believe me, fresh is not only the best, it is necessary.
  • Spices – Smoked paprika and red pepper flakes.
  • Garlic – Use as much or as little as you like.
  • Seasoning – Salt and pepper.
  • Herbs – Dried dill and chopped fresh parsley.
  • Fish: Today we will use a whole halibut fillet.
  • Tomato – Fresh and diced, to serve on top of our finished dish.

Can I use a different fish than halibut?

If you’re not a fan of halibut or can’t find it in your grocery store, you can substitute it with any of the following:

  • tilapia
  • Cod
  • Turbot
  • Flounder
  • Chance

How to make baked halibut with lemon and garlic

Prepare the sauce: In a 9×13-inch saucepan, mix the first 8 ingredients. Marinate the fish: Place the halibut fillet in the pan, then flip it over to get a little marinade on both sides. You can also cut the halibut fillet into smaller individual pieces, if you prefer. Cover with cling film and marinate for about 30 minutes to 2 hours in the fridge. Preheat your oven to 350 F degrees. Bake the fish: Remove the cling film from the pan and place the dish in the oven. Bake for 20 minutes or until cooked through. Serve immediately, garnished with parsley and/or chopped tomatoes, if desired.

How important is marinating?

Marinating is crucial! Not only does it allow the flavors to penetrate every bite of fish, but it also acts as a natural tenderizer. I recommend marinating the fish for about an hour, but 30 minutes to 2 hours should be sufficient.

Make ahead

You can! These components can be stored separately in airtight containers for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. Please note that the components of this dish do not freeze well, so I do not recommend preparing them in advance for freezing.
