James Corden Talks Final ‘Late Late’ Shows and Next Steps, With Hopes to Return to Theater: “It’s Absolutely Terrifying”

James Corden, the host of The Late Late Show, recently spoke about his future plans and his uncertainty about them. During a PaleyFest event in Los Angeles, Corden admitted that while there are plenty of things he’d love to do, they’re very reliant on people wanting him to do them. He mentioned that it’s going to be important for him to take a breath and decompress from the last eight years, especially since his family plans to move back to England this summer.

When asked if he’d like to return to the theater, Corden expressed a sense of urgency within him to do so. He revealed that he’d be really upset with himself if he didn’t go back to do another play or revisit a play he’s already done in the next year or so. Corden explained that he hasn’t felt this scared since he decided to take the show and move to America. He added that he’s aware that the road he’s trying to take isn’t one that’s often traveled, and with that comes a huge amount of fear.

The Late Late Show is in its final month, with the last episode set to air on April 27. During the panel, Corden and executive producers Ben Winston and Rob Crabbe reflected on their favorite moments throughout the show’s eight years. They also played a live version of their game “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” on stage. Corden revealed one of their craziest ideas that never came to be, which included Jennifer Lopez living with him in a glass box suspended over Sunset Boulevard for an entire day in promotion of her 2022 Netflix documentary Halftime.
