Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (from a loaf)
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon powdered onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup thinly sliced onions
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cooking sherry
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, eggs, breadcrumbs, black pepper, seasoned salt, powdered onion, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Shape the mixture into 8 patties.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the onion and patties in the hot oil until the patties are golden brown, about 4 minutes per side. Transfer the beef patties to a plate and keep them warm.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the onions and the pan drippings. Stir in the flour, scraping up the browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Gradually add beef broth and sherry. Season with salt and seasoned salt. Stir and simmer over moderate-low heat for approximately 5 minutes or until the gravy thickens. Reduce the heat to low, add the patties back to the gravy, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
