Others aspire to travel and pursue the things they never had time for when they were younger and tied to their work. While the future remains uncertain, one can only hope to be half as agile and energetic as Jackie McGee and Charlie Womble, an adorable couple and extraordinary dancers, when they reach their sixties.
Jackie and Charlie are well-known throughout the state of South Carolina for their incredible skills, particularly when it comes to dancing “The Shag.” This dance style holds a special place in the hearts of South Carolinians, having grown up with it as a part of their cultural heritage. The Shag is a partner dance often performed to Carolina beach music, a regional genre encompassing various rock, R&B, and pop tunes from the 1950s and 1960s.
For Charlie, the allure of dancing lies in the way it moves during the performance, with partners swaying back and forth like an accordion. In the video below, the dynamic duo showcases their talent and skills at the ShagAtlanta 2013 ACSC Summer Workshop. Their coordination is impeccable, executing each movement with such fluidity that they make the dance look effortless. It’s no wonder they have won countless competitions and accolades over the years, including being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
