Heard testified during the trial that she almost lost her role in “Aquaman” due to the media attention surrounding her legal battles with Depp. However, the former president of Warner Bros. Pictures, Walter Hamada, claimed in a video deposition that she was almost recast due to a lack of onscreen “chemistry” between her and Momoa, not because of the Depp controversy. Hamada also disagreed with Heard’s claim that her part in the sequel had been “pared down” because of the Depp situation, saying that Mera was never intended to be central to the sequel.
The trial created a mixed reaction towards both Heard and Depp on social media, with more animosity towards Heard. Despite the controversy, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is still set to be released on December 20, directed by James Wan.
