
Meet Smokey, a rescue dog who refuses to venture outside without his cherished elephant toy. His previous owners faced hardships that prevented them from caring for him.
On Valentine’s Day, the 5-year-old pup was handed over to the Franklin County Dog Shelter Adoption Center, along with his beloved toy, “so he could find solace” in it. Smokey’s deep attachment to his plush, gray elephant with pink ears prompted a notice on his kennel that stipulated they must be adopted together.
The elephant became Smokey’s source of comfort during his days at the shelter. Despite his initial shyness and anxiety, Smokey spent his time mostly playing with the toy. In March, Smokey was scheduled to be euthanized…
