Great British Bake Off to undergo huge revamp after flurry of viewer complaints

The Great British Bake Off is going through a major revamp in a bid to satisfy disgruntled fans who felt that the challenges on the last series were too complicated. The show, which is set to start filming in April, will return to basics with easier tasks and more classic bakes.

Fans were not pleased with the Halloween lantern challenge that had to be a piñata, and the time constraints were also criticised, with some describing them as “mission impossible”. The series was a disappointment for some viewers, with the underwhelming final watched by only 5.2 million people compared to 7.2 million the previous year.

Love Productions, which makes the show, has said that it is listening to fans and is taking steps to address their concerns. Richard McKerrow, the boss of Love Productions, admitted in The Media Podcast that the previous series was not the show’s strongest, and that they would “strip it back to basics, with a few twists.”
